Calls are welcomed between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday except Holidays. Patients are routinely seen by appointment only. If you are unable to keep an appointment, please notify our office as soon as possible, so we can use your time for another patient and make a new appointment for you. If you do not show for a scheduled appointment we may bill you a nominal fee.

The nature of our medical specialty requires that we treat certain injuries on an emergency basis or spend extra time with patients who have developed unforeseen problems. We try to keep these medical emergencies from delaying your scheduled appointment and attempt to inform you if a lengthy delay is anticipated. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding in these unavoidable situations.

Your First Visit

If you are a new patient or have not been here for a while, we ask you to provide us some information. This information will allow us to contact you if necessary and to assist us in filing insurance claims. If you are seeing us for a new problem, then you will need to fill out our Patient Information Form. Just click on the link, print out the form, fill it out, and bring it with you. In addition, please bring your insurance card to your appointment. Providing you with the best care requires that we have knowledge of your general health. Please bring a list of your current medications, including doses. If this is your first visit with us, please arrive 15 minutes early. If you are being seen for a low back or lower extremity problem, please bring a pair of loose shorts. If you are being seen for a shoulder or neck problem, please bring or wear a sleeveless shirt or tank.

Your first examination will require a thorough evaluation by your physician and may include x-rays or other diagnostic tests. After the evaluation, your physician may recommend a brief session with a therapist so that you may learn an exercise program. Please allow adequate time for this visit, and wear loose fitting comfortable clothing.

Tests, physical therapy, surgery.

If your orthopedic condition requires additional diagnostic testing, physical therapy, or surgery, we will work with you so these procedures can be done at a convenient time for you. Any x-rays you may need will be taken at our facility. However, if you have outside x-rays, CTs, MRIs, bone scans, EMGs, etc..., please bring the original films and copies of the reports with you to your appointment. If there is a need for surgery or hospitalization, the Steindler physicians are affiliated with Mercy Hospital, in Iowa City. We, also, work with physical therapists throughout Iowa.

Referring Physicians

We feel it is important to send a report of our findings to your family physician and any other physicians who are involved in your care. Please bring the names and addresses of these physicians.
